Documentary Roundtable: Adding DVD Extras to Your Film
For the July 22nd meeting of the Documentary Roundtable, we will have Aviva Kempner give a presentation titled "Yoo-hoo, Mrs. Goldberg: How to best finish your film and your DVD extras simultaneously and secure DVD rights by 'begging, borrowing and stealing' "
Aviva will be joined by Peter Silverman, the post-production editor. They will discuss how to plan for a DVD release including how to secure the additional rights required for distribution via DVD and video on demand.
The DVD will be released on August 24th. Aviva will have advance copies of the DVD for sale.
Directed by Aviva Kempner,"Yoo-hoo, Mrs. Goldberg" grossed over $1,000,000 at the box office, making it one of the top 10 grossing documentaries in 2009. The two-disk DVD features a lot of extras, including audio commentary from the director, interviews with actors, producers, journalists, and even a Supreme Court Justice. There is additional footage from the "The Goldbergs," including appearances by the young Steve McQueen and Anne Bancroft, Molly Goldberg's appearance on the Ed Sullivan show, and much more.
"Yoo-Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg" traces Berg’s rise to stardom from her childhood in New York to her early radio days to her enormously influential sitcom, “The Goldbergs” (1949-56), which brought Berg the first Best Actress Emmy® in history. Berg’s passion and incredible productivity paved the way for a wide variety of causes—women in entertainment, Jewish-American identity and actors’ rights, to name a few—but she is most celebrated for singlehandedly proving that the American family transcends social, religious and economic divisions.
