The Screenwriters Roundtables are open to the public, and provide a safe place for new and established writers to have their work read and critiqued.

This meeting will be a first five pages meeting. Several members' scripts have been chosen for a table read by actors and to receive constructive criticism from the other attendees.

Join us for an insightful teach-in designed to unpack the Documentary Producer's Alliance (DPA) Crediting Guidelines. This event is open to all documentary creators, producers, editors, and anyone interested in fostering fair crediting practices within the documentary field.

The DPA Crediting Guidelines aim to establish consistent and equitable standards in how contributors are acknowledged in documentary projects. By attending this teach-in, you'll gain a comprehensive understanding of these guidelines, and leave having a better understanding of efforts currently happening in the DPA to help producers speak for themselves, and their fellow teammates when it comes to crediting.

WIFV Film Club invites you to join us for our November 2024 selection, PROFESSOR MARSTON AND THE WONDER WOMEN (2017), a historical drama written and directed by Angela Robinson (D.E.B.S.) and starring Luke Evans (BEAUTY & THE BEAST), Rebecca Hall (THE PRESTIGE), Bella Heathcote (IN TIME) and Connie Britton (PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN).

The film tells the story of psychologist William Moulton Marston, and his polyamorous relationship with his wife and their mistress who would inspire his creation of the superheroine, Wonder Woman.

Patricia Aufderheide will be joining us to discuss her latest book: Kartemquin Films: Documentaries on the Frontlines of Democracy which chronicles how filmmaker-philosophers brought the dream of making documentaries and strengthening democracy to award-winning reality—with help from nuns, gang members, skateboarders, artists, disability activists, and more.

The evolution of Kartemquin Films—Peabody, Emmy, and Sundance-awarded and Oscar-nominated makers of such hits as Hoop Dreams and Minding the Gap—is also the story of U.S. independent documentary film over the last seventy years. Patricia Aufderheide reveals the untold story of how Kartemquin developed as an institution that confronts the brutal realities of the industry and society while empowering people to claim their right to democracy.

Kartemquin filmmakers, inspired by pragmatic philosopher John Dewey, made their studio a Chicago-area institution. Activists for a more public media, they boldly confronted the realities of gender, race, and class in their productions. They negotiated the harsh terms and demands of commercial media, from 16mm through the streaming era, while holding fast to their democratic vision. Drawing on archival research, interviews, and personal experience, Aufderheide tells an inspiring story of how to make media that matters in a cynical world.

What is Included in Your Registration? In addition to the master class and/or workshops you are registering for, you are invited to attend the Media Mixer and 2nd Short Screenplay Competition on Friday evening, November 15. The Mixer starts at 5:30 pm and the Competition starts at 6:30 pm.

We will be screening short films developed during the WIFV 45th Anniversary Filmmaker Challenge starring Barbie during lunch breaks.

RESISTERHOOD (2020) is a film about the power of women, hope and resistance in American politics. After the 2016 elections, we follow six diverse Americans as they fight for social justice on the streets and in the halls of power.

BREAKING THE WEST (2024) is about the ambitious son of a Russian oligarch attempting to become the first Russian pop star to make it big in the West. Just as his dream seems within reach, accusations that he helped Donald Trump win the 2016 presidential election turn his life and dream upside down. Caught in one of the biggest international political scandals of all time, BREAKING THE WEST follows him as he tries to manage his story while protecting his father, their global business empire, and his musical ambitions.

THE SIXTH (2024) is a portrayal of a city and nation under siege, as well as a testament to the importance of truth, told through the eyes of 6 unique individuals whose lives will be forever changed by the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.
